Update #7 – May 23, 2015

Posted by Bill Schelly on May 23, 2015

Good news!! I’m happy to announce that a new edition of my long out-of-print biography Words of Wonder: The Life and Times of Otto Binder is definitely going to be published! This is something I’ve been trying to make happen, one way or another, for at least five years. Of all my out-of-print Hamster Press books, I get more requests and queries about this one than all the others combined. It’s mainly because of Otto Binder’s importance to the comic book medium, since he was one of the most prolific writers of comics from 1942 to 1968. (I believe he turned out more scripts than any other writer during the 1940s.) Also, he wrote extensively about UFOs and other similar phenomena, making him an important figure in the history of Ufology. Why did I think a print run of 1,000 copies would be sufficient? It wasn’t! In fact, the book sold out almost as soon as it came out, and now, some 12 years later, copies are going for between $80 and $250 (and up) in the collectible market. Therefore, I’m elated than an affordable edition — paperback, probably priced around $19.95 — will be available before too long.

Of course, in the world of publishing, nothing happens overnight. North Atlantic Books, the publisher of this second edition, tells me it is scheduled for release in summer 2016. And, while I’m running the cover of the first edition here, it will have a new cover in its upcoming incarnation. I’m working on getting everything together for it now, and will submit it to the publisher in a couple of months. In case you’re wondering, it’ll be substantially the same text and art but with some additions and (of course) corrections. OTTO! We haven’t forgotten you!!
